A symptom that shows up after lunch is not automatically caused by lunch. Keep a short, useful record
A food-and-symptom diary should not make eating feel anxious or turn every bite into a data point. Used for a limited period, often one to two weeks, it can turn vague impressions into observations you can compare. Record meals in enough detail to spot repeats, then note symptoms and their intensity without trying to explain them straight away.

When an elimination trial may be useful
A structured, temporary elimination trial can sometimes help investigate a specific recurring pattern. It is an experiment, not a cure or diagnostic label. The aim is to remove one suspected food or clearly defined category for a limited time, keep the rest of the diet as consistent as practical, and reintroduce it deliberately when that is appropriate and safe.

Protect nutrition and flexibility
The more foods you remove, the more deliberate meal planning needs to be. Dairy-free eating can affect calcium, protein, iodine, and vitamin D intake depending on what replaces it. Avoiding grains, legumes, eggs, or several plant foods can narrow fiber sources and reduce variety. When symptoms need medical attention
Persistent symptoms deserve a medical conversation, especially if they interfere with eating, sleep, work, or quality of life. It leaves enough detail to compare the next similar meal under different conditions.
